Access to files on FTP servers is typically governed by permission settings that restrict which users can read, write, or execute the files. Some FTP servers (typically those running the Unix operating system) make it possible for FTP clients to change those permissions (provided that the user is the owner of the files in question). Fetch provides two commands for dealing with permissions. Set Permissions… changes the permissions for the selected files and directories. Set Upload Permissions… sets the permissions to be used for files that are uploaded.
To verify that permissions are set correctly you can use the View File List command. If these commands do not work it is likely that the server does not support the Unix-derived permission commands (“SITE CHMOD” for changing permissions, and “SITE UMASK” for changing upload permissions).
